PAVAKKA PACHADI - BITTER GOURD RAITA


Bitter Gourd is a healthy vegetable with lots of iron content in it which makes it quiet bitter. Its really good for Diabetic patients . Though this vegetable is yet to get familiar to western countries..

This bitter pachadi can be served on Sadyas along with sweet Beetroot pachadi, and salty cucumber pachadi .


Things needed :

Bitter gourd or Pavakka - 2 big , slice into rounds
Green chillies - 3- 4 , cut lengthwise

Marinate the Pavakka & green chillies with,
Chilly powder - 1 tsp
Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
Salt - 1/2 tsp

Deep fry the marinated pavakka & green chillies in oil until crispy.

Make a paste of ,
Grated coconut - 1/2 of a coconut
Jeera or cumin powder - 1/4 tsp
Greenchilly - 1
Garlic - 1 small pod


Preparation method for the pachadi:

Heat oil, splutter mustard seeds , fry curry leaves.
Add the coconut paste and 1/2 cup water.
Boil only once.
Toss in the fried Pavakka & greenchillies.
Remove the pan from the heat. Allow to cool for a while.
When cooled, mix in curd , check for salt.
Pavakka pachadi is ready.

Its my fav. pachadi, tastes absolutely delicious, my whole family likes it except my children :) .
It goes very well with rice.
